Priya and Nikhil’s Hindu wedding at Shiraz Gardens in Bastrop was full of vibrant color, dance, and joyful moments. The best way to describe such a beautiful place such as Shiraz Gardens is by simply saying it is a natural haven nestled in Hill Country. The Gardens has many places that can be used for different parts of the wedding day. The couple opted for a sunset view during their ceremony and a more intimate setting for the sangeet and reception.
The bride wore two different saris. The first one was red and the second one was a beautiful cream colored sari. The pattern had touches of gold, pink and even hints of green. The richness of the color and textures are so stunning in person. The groom’s ceremony outfit matched Priya’s and were custom made in India and specifically brought in for the wedding day.
I loved witnessing the closeness of family and getting to see just how important traditions are. Prior to the wedding there was a Sangeet. The sangeet was a fun part of the day where so many family and friends performed for the bride and groom. It was a fusion of music, color, and a wonderful thing to have experienced.
The arrival of the groom to the ceremony site is called a baraat and that in itself was a little party and so much fun. Once the groom arrived to the ceremony site, the mother of the bride performed a mini ritual.
The ceremony was adorned in orange and decorated with flowers and elephant charms. They call this the mandap. The hindu ceremony rituals are so beautiful to witness and can relatively be explained as a coming together of the two families through prayer and celebration. AS the bride and groom walked hand in hand towards the mandap, the couple exchanged a jai mala which is a garland comprised of strung flowers. This symbolizes the partners welcoming each other into their families. At the end the bride and groom’s garments were tied together and then they walked seven circles around the ceremonial fire, each one in significance of a blessing from the gods.
It was truly a spectacular ceremony to witness and honored to have documented it for such a lovely couple.
We wish Priya and Nikhil a lifetime of happiness.
