Tips To Prepare For Your Studio Family Session

Looking for a bit of inspiration for family photos?

Well this family is always the perfect inspiration, whether it’s an indoor studio photoshoot or an outdoor session. They are so photogenic and picture perfect.

Here’s a few tips to maximize the session, have fun, and get all the photos you’ll need.

1. What to wear?

Since most studios are like a blank canvas. I usually suggest to look at the overall decor of your home and maybe stay within the palette of those colors. Surely, you’ll want to hang some of these beautiful pictures done. So if you’re ever in doubt on what to have your family wear. Narrow it down to color palettes. Neutrals are always great because it reflects really well with the white walls, but in this instance we played with colors in the mom’s dress and the use of the sofas.

2. Make sure everyone is well rested and fed.

Bring snacks for the little ones or something to give as a treat for afterwards for a job well done.

3. Start with family groupings.

I like to start with everyone in the photo first. If any grandparents are present we add them in as well. After we get a few variations of those we move on to smaller groupings. Then do individual photos and just have fun.

4. Be yourselves and have fun.

Be open to the fact that kids might not want to cooperate.  Some kids do really well the first 15 minutes of the session and then their attention span just may not be what adults have. Be open to having candid photos and having fun. At the end of the day you’ll realize they’re real and raw and it’s your family.
